The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians was founded in 2005. The mission: to provide access to affordable healthcare services to Austin’s uninsured working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. Medical, dental, mental, hearing and vision health services are provided by the Seton Family of Hospitals, St. David’s Foundation, The SIMS Foundation, Estes Audiology and Prevent Blindness Texas.

Now well into its 6th year of existence, HAAM has allowed thousands of hard-working Austin musicians access to regular, cost-effective healthcare services. Without this alliance, working musicians who juggle day jobs and are uninsured might have a tough time finding anything but emergency care for themselves and their families.

One day each year is designated as HAAM Benefit Day, a unique event where the city unites to keep music alive and well in Austin. The 6th Annual HAAM Benefit Day, presented by Whole Foods Market, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011. Many local businesses donate 5% of their proceeds for the to HAAM, and dozens of local musicians, most of whom are HAAM members, perform throughout the day at venues and stores throughout the city.
